What services are provided and from where?
Primary Healthcare services are usually the first point of contact people have with the NHS. Services provided by GPs (Family Doctors) and their teams are based around GP practices (surgeries).
The PCT has the following primary healthcare teams:
a) 123 GPs based in 33 practices
b) 360 practice nurses, practice managers and practice administrative staff
Primary healthcare services are also provided by pharmacists, dentists and optometrists.There are 40 community pharmacies in the area with qualified pharmacists providing a valuable source of advice and support to patients, for example in the self-management of minor ailments and the management of medication.
