21st century healthcare facilities for Tetbury

Tetbury is to get a new local hospital and modern GP facilities according to plans unveiled at a public meeting in the town last week.
Representatives of the local Primary Care Trust (PCT), the Tetbury Hospital Trustees and local GPs said they had established a partnership working group to develop a new integrated treatment and primary care centre to be built on a new site in Tetbury within the next two years.
The three partners explained that the new facility would be run by local doctors and include provision for most of the health services currently provided by Tetbury Hospital along with new and additional services such as dermatology, diabetes care, podiatry, day care, opticians, dentistry and complementary therapies. It is hoped that a modern nursing home might also be located next to the new facility thereby ensuring that local GPs could have inpatient beds available in Tetbury on the same site.
The new proposals emerged a few days ago following what the three partners described as "valuable and fruitful discussions" that took place after a public meeting held in Tetbury last month.
The Cotswold and Vale PCT has agreed to continue commissioning services from the current Tetbury Hospital - which is a private/charitable hospital rather than a National Health Service hospital - to ensure that it remains viable for the next two years. And the Tetbury Hospital Trustees have agreed to use their funds and resources to enhance the overall health services provided for the people of Tetbury.
At the public meeting held in Tetbury last week the local mayor Stephen Hearst committed the Town Council to looking at ways of ensuring there are good transport links to the new hospital and GP centre and during the debate a number of people referred to the limited nature of parking facilities at the current hospital and GP centre. The three partners indicated that there would be better parking facilities at the new centre. Local GP Tony Walsh also raised the possibility of creating a day centre funded by social services on the new site.
Robert Knibbs, the Director of Finance at Cotswold and Vale Primary Care Trust, said, "I really sense that all the key people in Tetbury - including the Hospital Trustees, local GPs, the Town Council and, of course, the PCT - are now pulling together to create a modern, integrated health facility that will deliver state of the art services for the people of Tetbury."
